Best Family-Friendly Activities in Apopka, Florida

So you’re planning a family vacation to Florida! The Sunshine State has so much to offer visitors year-round, from beautiful beaches, to natural preserves and historic sites. Apopka is a city just North of Orlando and Winter Park and West of Sanford. With just over 50,000 residents, Apopka is one of Orange County’s smaller cities. However, there is plenty to do and see in this Central Florida city. Keep reading to learn about some of Apopka’s best family-friendly activities for your upcoming trip.

Wekiwa Springs State Park

Wekiwa Springs State Park is one of the most popular recreation areas in Apopka. Featuring beautiful emerald springs and lush tropical hammocks, Wekiwa Springs is just minutes from downtown Orlando. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent on-site, but many visitors choose to go for a swim or float on a tube. In addition to the breath-taking azure springs, this unique state park offers miles of trails that can be traveled on foot, bike or horseback. This park is perfect for observing the abundant wildlife or simply exploring.

Rock Springs Run

Another popular destination in Apopka is Rock Springs Run State Reserve. At this reserve, visitors can enjoy bicycling, hiking or horseback riding along 17 miles of trails. Guided trail rides and horse rentals are available, as well as primitive campsites accessible by canoe. Adventurous families will love this beautiful slice of Florida’s natural beauty.

King’s Landing

King’s Landing is located directly on the pristine waters of Rocks Springs Run, one of three main tributaries that feeds the Wekiva River Basin.  Offering family-friendly activities for all ages to enjoy, including self-guided and nighttime tours.  There’s no better way to immerse yourself in true Florida nature, wildlife around every paddle and emerald waters below. King’s Landing is nicknamed “Nature’s Theme Park,” because of the bountiful experiences to be had here. This destination is definitely worth checking out for a fun day in nature.

Orlando: Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld

Of course, when talking about Central Florida, we have to mention some of Florida’s biggest attractions. Disney World, Universal, and SeaWorld are all located in Orlando, along with several waterparks and more family-friendly experiences. Orlando is roughly a 30-minute drive from Apopka, but the memories you create here can last a lifetime! Shop, dine, and play at Disney Springs or see the city from new heights on The Wheel at ICON Park. Orlando has no shortage of attractions that are fun for the whole family!
